As Term 3 draws to a close, I want to take a moment to reflect on the many opportunities and achievements that have enriched our school community over the past ten weeks.
Term 4 has already begun with great momentum, filled with excursions and activities that continue to enhance the learning experiences of our students. These opportunities extend beyond the classroom and allow our young people to engage deeply with their learning.
Curriculum Enrichment Activities
We have had the privilege of offering a variety of curriculum-enhancing experiences:
- Kinmen Island exchange visit
- White Card and First Aid training courses
- ADF presentation to our Year 10 students
- Book Week celebrations
- Science Week activities
- Battle of the Houses afternoon
- Year 8 visits to Hellyer College, UTAS, and William Adams
- Year 7 Science and HASS excursion to Wings Wildlife Park
We also welcomed over 40 Year 3 students to Wynyard High School to work alongside our staff and students. This was a fantastic opportunity to build connections and showcase the learning culture at our school.
Transition Programs
Term 3 marked the beginning of our transition programs. On Tuesday, 22 July, we welcomed Year 6 students and their families to our Parent Information Evening. This event was a great success and has helped strengthen our connections with local feeder schools, including Table Cape Primary School and Boat Harbour Primary School. We thank both schools for their ongoing support and commitment to improving opportunities for young people in our region.
We are excited to welcome Year 6 students again in Term 4 for their Orientation Day, which will be their first official day as Wynyard High School students. This milestone is an important part of their transition and we look forward to supporting them as they begin their high school journey.
Sporting Opportunities
Our students have also participated in a range of sporting events this term, including:
- 3x3 Basketball
- Badminton
- Netball
- Girls Gala Day Football
Year 10 Pathways
It has been a busy term for our Year 10 students, many of whom have participated in Work Experience placements. In collaboration with Hellyer College and Wynyard High School staff, students have been exploring pathways and opportunities for 2026.
As we look ahead to Term 4, we remain focused on supporting our students to finish the year strongly. I look forward to celebrating their achievements with you all at our upcoming events, including our End of Year Presentation Evening.
I wish everyone a safe and restful break.

We look forward to seeing you there.
The red carpet was rolled out once again for our highly anticipated Evening of the Arts, held on Wednesday, 24 and Thursday, 25 September. This year’s theme, inspired by The Greatest Showman, delivered a truly spectacular celebration of creativity, individuality, and show-stopping talent.
Audiences were treated to an unforgettable experience filled with music, drama, dance, and visual art, all showcasing the incredible talents of our students. From powerful performances to breathtaking displays of artistic expression, every moment reflected the dedication and passion of our young artists.
Whether guests had attended in previous years or were joining us for the first time, the event proved to be an absolute highlight. The atmosphere was electric, the performances were inspiring, and the sense of community and pride was palpable throughout both evenings.
We are thrilled with how successful the event was and deeply grateful for the support from families, staff, and the wider community. The Evening of the Arts continues to be a cherished tradition, and this year’s show was a shining example of what happens when creativity and collaboration come together.

On Thursday, 19 September our Student Centre was transformed into a dazzling Western wonderland as students gathered for our much-anticipated Country and Western themed social—and what a night it was!
From cowboy hats to denim jackets, the students came dressed to impress, fully embracing the theme with style and spirit. The atmosphere was electric with dancing, country tunes, and plenty of laughter echoing through the room. The decorations set the scene perfectly, with hay bales, and twinkling fairy lights creating a rustic vibe.
A huge thank you to the staff and volunteers who helped bring this event to life—and to the students for making it such a joyful celebration.

Students and staff came together to enjoy a delicious spread of Aussie favourites, including hearty meat pies, crispy chicken parmi burgers, warm cob loaf, nostalgic fairy bread, Tim Tam slams, and a classic chocolate ripple cake. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement and community spirit, making it a truly memorable event.
A massive thank you to everyone who helped bring it to life — from the organisers and volunteers to those who cooked, served, and supported. Your efforts made Snackaroo Café a fantastic celebration of Aussie flavours and school spirit!

On Thursday, 4 September, the school came alive for our annual Battle of the Houses afternoon – and what an epic showdown it was!
Students got to pick from eight action-packed activities, from Pickleball to Art Olympics, and faced off against rival houses. The energy was sky-high, the competition fierce, and the teamwork on full display. Whether it was smashing goals, scoring points, or getting creative, every house brought their A-game.
Our activity leaders could not stop talking about how well students showed off our school values: Connection, Growth, Courage, Respect, and Responsibility. At the end of the day, they each chose one student to receive the House Spirit Award – recognising those who led by example, encouraged their peers, and kept the vibes positive all afternoon.
House Spirit Award Recipients:
· Simulator Golf: Logan (Year 10) – tried something new and lifted the team up with encouragement.
· Netball & Volleyball: Georgie (Year 9) – the team’s loudest cheerer and biggest motivator.
· Digital Technologies: Angus (Year 9) – tech wizard with a great attitude in every challenge.
· Art Olympics: Adeline (Year 9) – creativity + teamwork = gold star performance.
· Soccer & Archery: Jack (Year 7) – top sportsmanship from start to finish.
· Pickleball: Maddie (Year 9) – played hard, helped out, and kept spirits high.
· Fishing: Chace (Year 10) – patient, persistent, and always ready to help others.
· Cooking: Scarlett (Year 7) & Sommer (Year 8) – made sure everyone was included and every dish was a team win.

It was an incredible afternoon full of laughter, competition, and school pride – and now the countdown is on to the Athletics Carnival on 13 and 14 November (Week 5, Term 4). This will be the final chance to claim house glory and decide who will be crowned the 2025 Champion House.
Year 8 students recently took an exciting step toward planning their futures with a series of engaging visits to Hellyer College, the UTAS Cradle Coast Campus, and William Adams CAT. These excursions offered students a first hand look at a range of study and career opportunities, helping them begin to shape their aspirations for Year 9 and beyond.
Throughout the day, students explored different learning environments, met with professionals, and gained valuable insights into potential pathways in education and industry. The experience sparked curiosity and conversation, encouraging students to think critically about their goals and interests.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to our generous hosts for welcoming our students and making the day such a memorable and inspiring success.

Five of our Year 9 students participated in the two-day Girls in Power program — an inspiring initiative aimed at encouraging young women to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Day one sparked excitement, with students diving into hands-on activities such as making extension leads and connecting circuits. These practical experiences not only build technical skills but also boost confidence and curiosity in STEM fields.
Programs like Girls in Power play a vital role in breaking down barriers and showing students the possibilities that lie ahead. We’re proud of our students for embracing the challenge and look forward to seeing how this experience shapes their future aspirations.

Wynyard High School students proudly represented our school at the Interschool Chess Tournament, showcasing their strategic thinking and teamwork.
After a series of intense matches against strong competition, our team secured third place overall — a fantastic achievement that reflects their dedication and skill.
Congratulations to all the students who participated, and thank you to everyone who helped make the day a success. We are incredibly proud of our chess team and look forward to seeing their continued success in future tournaments!

Our Certificate II in Horticulture students have enjoyed a busy and inspiring term, building skills and experiences that will set them up for future careers in the land-based industries.
Industry Training at Freer Farm
Students kicked off the term with the Quad Bike and Side-by-Side Utility Course at TAFE’s Freer Farm. This nationally recognised training helped them develop safe handling skills on machinery widely used in horticulture, farming, and land management.
Soil Science with a Local Expert
We were fortunate to host Dr Tom O’Malley (BAppSc Horticulture, PhD Agriculture), well known across the Northwest Coast for his pioneering work with dung beetles and soil health. Dr O’Malley led a hands-on soil sampling activity using a motorised coil sampler. This gave students the opportunity to investigate soil horizons and composition right here at Wynyard High, deepening their understanding of what is beneath our feet.
Revegetation at Live Well Tasmania
Across multiple visits to Live Well Tasmania’s Farm at Oldina, students rolled up their sleeves and contributed to vital revegetation work. Together, they planted Tasmanian natives including blackwood, sassafras, myrtle, and bush pepper, helping to regenerate local bushland and support biodiversity.
Propagation & Greenhouse Work
Back at school, the greenhouse has been a hive of activity. Students have:
- Raised vegetable seedlings to give them a head start for spring planting.
- Extended the misting irrigation system to care for young plants.
- Prepared the many propagated plants from earlier in the year for repotting and growth.
Looking Ahead
It’s hard to believe that when students return next term, they will have just four weeks remaining to complete their course. With so many achievements already behind them, the final stretch promises to be just as rewarding and action-packed.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Schoolzine App remains an essential tool for staying connected with everything happening at school. From excursions and permission slips to important letters and newsletters, it keeps all communications in one convenient place. With Schoolzine, you’ll never miss a key update or event.
However, in our ongoing efforts to streamline communication and reduce the number of platforms you need to monitor, we will be gradually transitioning from Schoolzine to EdSmart as our primary communication tool.
You may already be familiar with EdSmart, as it’s currently used to send automatic notifications about student absences. Over the coming months, EdSmart will be used more broadly to deliver school messages, newsletters, and excursion letters/permissions.
Most communications will still arrive via email, but they will now be sent through EdSmart rather than Schoolzine. In some cases, you may also receive messages via SMS.
⚠️ Please note: Schoolzine will continue to be used for the remainder of this year. It’s still important to check the app regularly to ensure you don’t miss any updates or events.
Starting next year, all school communications will be sent exclusively through EdSmart.
Continuing on from Term 3, students and staff are no longer be allowed to use mobile phones to make purchases at the canteen.
- Only physical cards will be accepted via EFTPOS
- No tap payments using phones
Please note this decision has not been made locally—it follows DECYP's policy.
Lunch orders must be placed by 9:00am by using the Qkr! App or at the canteen. There are extra specials daily, please check to Qkr! App for availability.
