On 22 May, all the Year 8 students gathered in Flex to explore illustration techniques from the author/illustrator Aura Parker in celebration of National Simultaneous Storytime day for 2024. Aura wrote and illustrated the book ‘Bowerbird Blues’ using beautiful watercolours and quirky birds. We explored how we could use charcoal to sketch, shade and pattern our fabulous bowerbirds with expert instruction from Aura herself. We also discussed the visual literacy techniques used in this book include using emotive colours, symbols, and vectors.
