Next week marks a highlight of our school calendar – the Athletics Carnival! Students have been actively preparing during PE classes, and we’re thrilled to see their efforts showcased. We warmly invite families to join us in cheering on our young athletes on Thursday and Friday. Your presence will make the event even more special, and we look forward to seeing you there.
In the first two weeks of this term, over 95% of students successfully completed PAT testing for Reading and Mathematics. This is an invaluable tool for both students and the school. Students receive detailed feedback on their progress, while the school uses this data to track individual growth and monitor overall trends as a learning community. We’ll be sharing more detailed insights with families soon.
Over the past week, students have been reflecting on the results of the Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey, completed in September. This survey provides valuable insights into key aspects of school life, including:
- School Climate: The overall atmosphere and culture of the school.
- School Belonging: How connected students feel to their peers and the school community.
- Feeling Safe at School: Students’ perceptions of their physical and emotional safety.
- Emotional Engagement with Teachers: The quality of relationships and support students experience from their teachers.
- Cognitive Engagement with Learning: How motivated and invested students are in their learning.
Each home group has been reviewing these results and discussing how we can continue to create a positive, supportive, and inclusive environment where all students feel safe, engaged, and connected.
Using the following link you’ll find a summary of this data - Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey Infographic. We encourage parents and carers to review this feedback and share your thoughts on how Wynyard High School can further improve student wellbeing and engagement in learning.
Please take a moment to complete the accompanying Microsoft Form to provide your feedback.

Your input is invaluable as we work together to enhance our school community.
Thank you for your ongoing support as we strive to create the best possible opportunities for your children.
Term 4 - Excursions and Events
Options Evening
This term, we were delighted to welcome so many families to our Options Evening, where we showcased the diverse range of subjects and programs available for students in 2025. It was great to see families engaging with our staff to learn more about the choices that will shape the upcoming year. Year 7, 8, and 9 students have finalised their selections, and staff are now in the process of reviewing these. By the end of the term, students and families will be informed of the final selections, setting the stage for an exciting and enriching year of learning in 2025.
Kinmen Island Visit
On 21 October, Mr Piermont, Elliot, Jay, Claire, Bryce and I, along with students from three other schools along the Northwest coast (Reece High, Devonport High and Burnie High) began a trip of a life-time. We departed from Launceston airport for our two-week adventure to Xiamen, Kinmen Island and Taipei.
We flew from Melbourne to Hong Kong and then Hong Kong to Xiamen, China. In Xiamen, we visited a school with over 8,000 students, ate local cuisine at multiple restaurants, walked around the botanical gardens and visited Gu Lang Yu Island. On Gu Lang Yu Island we went on a walk to see temples, statues and views of the island. We also visited lots of handmade stalls to do some shopping on the Island.
After our stay in Xiamen, we caught a ferry to Kinmen Island. In Kinmen, we were greeted by the local Minister for Education and our tour guide. We went on a tour around villages before meeting with our host families. Throughout our time in Kinmen, we went to the local schools and immersed ourselves in their way of life. Participating in activities with our buddies such as going into classes and spending time with their families gave us an insight into Kinmen life and highlighted the differences between Kinmen and Australia.
During our stay in Kinmen Island, we also visited lots of landmarks and participated in different activities with our host families. Some of us went to the Halloween festival on Halloween Street, wore traditional Chinese dresses and tried lots of different foods. With our groups and buddies, we visited the shouting fountains, military caves and beaches along the coast of Kinmen.
After a very sad goodbye leaving Kinmen Island and our host families we left for our final destination, Taipei, the capital of Taiwan. During our stay in Taipei, we experienced a typhoon and an earthquake, which forced us to stay in our luxurious hotel for a whole day. Luckily, we were safe and the very next day we set off to the Australian Office where we met with multiple staff that gave us a look into what their careers look like working in Taipei. We also visited Taipei 101, the 11th tallest sky scraper in the world which is built to survive earthquakes.
Throughout our whole trip we were constantly immersing ourselves in the culture. From trying the various new foods to overcoming language barriers, the trip has taught all of us so much about the differences in culture and how we can take what we have learned and apply it to our lives in Australia.
We would all highly recommend this trip if the opportunity arises in the future and are so grateful for the chance to participate in this eye-opening experience.

Tulip Farm Industry Visit
Our Year 11/12 Horticulture students had the opportunity to visit Table Cape Tulip Farm for an industry tour. A huge thank you to Dave for providing an engaging and informative tour, showcasing some of the latest and most exciting horticultural practices. The students gained valuable insight and inspiration from this experience!
Burnie 10
We had an amazing turnout of staff and students at the Burnie 10 this year! The beautiful weather added to the enjoyment of the day, and Dylan’s motivating talk gave everyone the extra push they needed. A big congratulations to all who participated!
Coastal Pathway Opening
On 24 October, SEC members and two representatives from each year rode to the official opening ceremony of the Coastal Pathway with Shay and Mrs Moore. Wynyard Fitness, kindly leant us bikes and helmets and we rode the 13km along the pathway to Somerset, where we represented the school at the opening. It was a great ride to Somerset but a little more challenging on the way back due to a significant head wind. We encourage everyone to get out and use the pathway as it is a fantastic opportunity to get outside and enjoy the spectacular scenery– you can now get all the way to Burnie safely. We would like to thank Wynyard Fitness.
World Teachers Day
This term we celebrated World Teachers’ Day with a thoughtful gesture from our Year Level Representatives, who wrote heartfelt messages and delivered cupcakes to each teacher. It was a small way to show our appreciation for the dedication our teachers bring to the school community every day.
North West Regional High School Basketball Tournament
Our students are competing in the North West Regional High School Basketball Tournament this weekend. See below for game times and locations. Join us in cheering on our teams for an exciting weekend of basketball!
